About Maree
Maree’s passion for mental health and wellbeing has been her driving force since commencing her career as a mental health occupational therapist over 30 years ago. She has practised in a range of mental health and drug and alcohol services here in Perth and in England.
In 2003 she attained a Master of Counselling which enabled her to expand and deepen her mental health clinical skills and opened up academic career opportunities. She continues to work as a university lecturer and researcher in mental health.
In January 2014 Maree created Rise Therapy, a dual psychotherapy and mental health occupational therapy service offering an extensive range of mental health therapies for children and adolescents (aged 10-17), adults and older adults. She has developed a deep understanding and conviction that mental distress can have its roots in early life, most often resulting from such adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) as abuse, neglect and family dysfunction, all of which can have traumatic effects on the central nervous system (CNS). This has produced her passion for early intervention and the adoption of therapies that facilitate CNS adaptation and that effectively heal trauma.
